Mae West: June 9th, Two Lives

Two actors who were featured in a MAE WEST screen gem are linked by the date June 9th.
• • Born in Ireland, Owen Moore [12 December 1886 — 9 June 1939] portrayed Chick Clark, Mae West's imprisoned ex-boyfriend, in "She Done Him Wrong" [filmed in 1932] when he was 46 years old. A long-term alcoholic, Owen Moore died in Beverly Hills, California from a heart attack at the age of 52 — — and was interred in the Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles, California.
• • Born in Belgium, George Bruggeman [1 November 1904 — 9 June 1967] portrayed Omnes in "I'm No Angel," his very first motion picture.
• • The intensely handsome dark-haired bit player was cast in comedies, musicals, and adventure/ war movies from the 1930s — 1960s, for instance, "Once Upon a Time" [1944]; "Song of the Sarong" [1945], in which he portrayed Native; "Two Years Before the Mast" [1946]; "What Price Glory" [1952], and many others.
• • George Bruggeman died on Friday, 9 June 1967 at the age of 62 in North Hollywood, California. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills), Los Angeles.
• • These two men, both of them talented singers as well as actors, are being remembered with great fondness today.
