Mae West: Delmar Watson

MAE WEST worked with several child actors in "My Little Chickadee" but few of them had a background as interesting as Delmar Watson (cast as "Boy").

• • Born in Los Angeles in July — — on 1 July 1926 — — David Delmar Watson was the son of stuntman, actor, and pioneer special effects artist J. Coy Watson, Sr. But perhaps the most difficult stunt J.C. ever pulled off was to bring six sons and three daughters into the world and stream each one straight into the screen trade and a paycheck.

• • Delmar Watson was seen in 72 feature films between 1928 — 1947.  He made his silver screen debut in "Taxi 13" [1928] when he was two years old.  He was instructed to bawl in a few movies (occasionally off-screen). This was a Watson family specialty: crying on cue. Delmar's younger brother "Bobs" [1930 — 1999], an expert at weeping and shedding tears profusely, was nicknamed "The Crybaby of Hollywood." 

• • When he was in his twenties, Delmar became a news photographer. He was present with a few siblings when "The First Family of Hollywood" received a star on the Walk of Fame.

• • Delmar Watson, who carried his brothers' trait for prostate cancer, died of it in Glendale, California on 26 October 2008.  He was 82.

• • Supposedly, on Sunday, 1 July 1934, the censorship of the Production Code began to be seriously and meticulously enforced.  Mae West suddenly found her screenplays heavily edited.
