Mae West: Fall Film Fest

A favorite MAE WEST movie will be shown today — — on Tuesday, 18 September 2012 — — at Patten Free Library.
• • In New England, those wonderfully well-organized librarians have scheduled a fantastic Fall Film Fest for their patrons. Their theme will help celebrate Paramount Pictures' 100th Anniversary each Tuesday at 6:30 pm and the Brooklyn bombshell is up first, starring in "She Done Him Wrong" [1933] set during the 1890s on the Bowery.  The second feature tonight will be "Duck Soup."
• •
This is the only double feature on their Tuesday film schedule
so come up to Maine and see Mae in her iconic role as Lady Lou, who made diamonds a career.
• • WHAT: "She Done Him Wrong" kicks off the Fall Film Fest at 6:30 pm today.
• • WHERE: Patten Free Library: 33 Summer Street, Bath, Maine 04530.
• • Andre Penachio [18 September 1926 — 1 April 1999] • •
• • Lifelong Mae West friend and man-of-the-cloth Andre Penachio campaigned vigorously in 1997 and 1998 to have the actress honored with a postage stamp.
• • Bishop Andre Penachio officiated at Mae West's burial at Cypress Hills Abbey in Brooklyn, New York in 1980.
• • Until his retirement, Bishop Andre Penachio had been attached to the St. Thomas Liberal Catholic Church [147 West 144th Street, New York, NY 10030].
• • On Sunday, 18 September 1932 • •
• • After facing down the man who robbed her in Hollywood on mid-September 1932 in a Los Angeles courtroom, Mae was shocked and horrified to learn that stick-up-artist Harry Voiler [1891 — 1974] was released on bail in Miami during February 1934.
• • Details about Mae's recent testimony had been published in several weekend editions across the USA on Sunday, 18 September 1932. Harry Voiler, parolee. Yikes.
• • On Thursday, 18 September 1980 • •
• • It was September when Mae West was in the hospital and not doing well.  On Thursday, 18 September 1980, the Hollywood icon suffered a second stroke, and this left her right side paralyzed.  Dreadful.
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said: "Sex without love doesn't mean much.  Sex with love — — well, kings give up kingdoms for it. Sex is only a physical thing: the act is over, and then what? Where there's love, you have something maddening."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • An article on a celebrity interviewer mentioned Mae West.
• • Isadora Rangel wrote: He spent 10 days on Marlon Brando's island in Tahiti. He bought Mae West flowers once. ...

• • The Mae West Blog was started eight years ago in July 2004. You are reading the 2431st blog post. Unlike many blogs, which draw upon reprinted content from a newspaper or a magazine and/ or summaries, links, or photos, the mainstay of this blog is its fresh material focused on the life and career of Mae West, herself an American original.
